Educators Weighing in on Wikipedia
Well, here's my first post. I linked an article from the Daily Bruin (UCLA student newspaper) about differing perspectives on Wikipedia usage by college students. While I think it's a good site for pictures and images, I try and dissuade students from using it as an official source just like you would dissuade them from using a print encyclopedia. The good information it has isn't worth the sketchy or even completely incorrect info. By the way, I noticed last time I checked that there is no Wikipedia entry for Rio Hondo College. I'll have to get Manny to create one. I'm sure he's got nothing else to do:)

I first heard about Wikipedia some time ago (maybe 1 1/2 years ago) on NPR. The report was that the error rate (I can't recall on what basis) was 4.5 per X entries for Wiki, and 3.5 to their comparison, Encyclopedia Britannica. I was not disturbed to hear that there were more errors in Wiki than EB, but instead that there were 3.5 errors per X in the EB! Maybe Wiki is not all that bad after all.
