Students Sue Turnitin

Some high school students have sued Turnitin. This is a company that detects plagiarism and is used by many colleges. One way the company detects plagiarism is to save papers submitted by students to build a database against which later submissions are compared to.
Well these students submitted copyrighted papers and asked Turnitin not to save their work. Turnitin saved their work and are being sued for copyright infringement.
I liked the following comment from the article:
Kevin Wade, that plaintiff's father, said he thinks schools should focus on teaching students cheating is wrong.
"You can't take a person's work and run it through a computer and make an honest person out of them," Wade said. "My son's major objection is that he does not cheat, and this assumes he does. This case is not about money, and we don't expect to get that."
