Rio Hondo is using the Web CT 4 system. Our licensing agreement will end in June. There is a debate as to whether we should switch to Web CT 6 or Blackboard or another system. I feel there is a need to discuss the difference and similarities between the Web CT and Blackboard systems.A similarity between the two system is that Blackboard supports publisher material as does Web CT.
A difference is that Blackboard keep all its buttons to the side. and does not give you a choice to use your own images.

The Grade book in Web CT is superior to Blackboard. Another difference between the two is Blackboard does NOT have an internal email system. They have something called Messages and it is terrible.
The discussion board in Blackboard is very similar to Web CT. Both students and faculty can search for postings by subject, date, or author. The students post in the same way. The grading of discussion posting is easier in Blackboard.

The tests and and online quizzes are very similar to Web CT and in my opinion easier to load up than Web CT. Tests and quizzes can be timed,where students are given a time limit to complete the quiz or test.
In my opinion there is very few differences between the two systems and both Faculty and students will pick up the system quickly, if not instantaneously.
