As we were looking at the menu a gentleman was leaving the restaurant with a bag of food. Kevin asked this elderly gentleman "how is this place?" The old man replied: "Very very good."
With that endorsement Mr. Y. relented and we walked into the set of the movie Blue Velvet. The walls were red and there were soviet era curtains hanging from the windows. It reminded me of great grandfather's third or fourth wife's house (yes my great grandfather had 3 or 4 wives but that is a different story) near the Caspian sea.
I ordered some appetizers. I ordered the grape leaves, and Tabuleh. I asked about the eggplant appetizer but did not order it. The lady taking our order brought a sample of it and it was not bad.
Kevin and I ordered the beef and lamb Kabob combo. Colin ordered Luleh Kabob which is ground beef and onions mixed with herbs and spices and wrapped around a skewer. Luleh means Pipe. When they remove the skewer there is hole down the center and it looks like a pipe. Colin said "It was not great but it was not bad either."
Kevin and I found our lamb kabob good, but I was not impressed with the beef. It was good but I have had better.
Also I was disappointed with the appetizers, and will not order appetizers again. The menu had a page that I loved. It was a page full of European beers. I ordered an Italian number and it tasted like my favorite Belgium beer Stella Artois. I wanted to order another beer but I had to teach at 7 PM and it was already 5 PM.
As we were leaving the old man who told us the place is "Very Very good", waved good bye to us from behind the cash register. Kevin was a little upset at himself for unknowingly asking the owner of the place if the place was good or not.
