Unfortunately in much of southern California, including the cities in the Rio Hondo District, graffiti is a huge eyesore and problem. I know there is plenty of it both in my hometown (San Pedro) and where I live now (Long Beach). You may have heard about the grandmother in Pico Rivera who was killed when she flashed her headlights at taggers. One of our local cities, Montebello, has implemented a new system which is triggered by the sounds of spray cans.
When the sensor is activated, a camera goes on, ideally catching the tagger in the act. Unfortunately it sounds exceedingly expensive and due to that can't be too widespread. Also, as the article mentions, it would be nice to spend money on more pressing issues than graffiti.
