I have started building my summer online class in Blackboard. Since we are switching over from Web CT to Blackboard, I have had to start a new. The process has been tedious and time consuming. However, it has had its advantages too. It made me reconsider how I wish to present my course.
An interesting function in Blackboard is the learning unit. For my Macro class, I have made 8 learning units (since the shortest time frame is 8 weeks). The process was very easy.
I clicked on create learning units and a short description of the learning unit. Viola, I had a folder to place my material into.
Inside these learning units I placed one or two lecture videos, but I guess powerpoints or other written material would be acceptable too.
Next, I placed an external link. In some learning units, I used a video from You tube and in others I placed an external link with directions.
Next I placed a discussion board question relating to the external link or Youtube video.
Finally, I ended the learning unit with a quiz.
I have been playing lots of Brain Age 2 on Nintendo DS and in one of the games they asks you to come up with acronyms. In that spirit let me try it here:
Lets see the lectures are Contents. The external links is asking them to Apply. The discussion is making them Rethink or Review. The quiz is Evaluating them.
Yes we can call this method CARE.
