I have this idea for a superflex presentation. Imagine a flex workshop in the Wray Theater with students, Smoke machine, and a video screen in the background. The play is about how teaching and learning has changed as new technology comes onto the scene. I have started writing the first part of this play.
Here is my first draft of the first part of the play/flex that I hope we can have at the Wray Theater. New technology disrupts how we learn and teach. Think back to the ancient Greek teacher and the new technology of paper. We can have Books, Radio, Television, the Internet, and mobile computers (cell phones, text messages).
Scene 1
An ancient Greek Philosopher teacher lecturing a class in his toga surrounded by students in their togas as he is lecturing a student in the audience breaks out a piece of paper and writing quilt.
Philosopher: Stop! What are you doing? Do you know not what you are doing to your brain? Writing weakens the mind. In order to strengthen the mind one must exercise it. Memorize memorize my man! Strengthen your memory. Put aside that papyrus.
Smoke machine kicks in and the music from the twilight zone and the character Rod Serling walks out of the smoke.
Rod: you unlock this door with the key of imagination beyond it is another dimension. A dimension of teaching, a dimension of learning, you are moving into a land of both teaching and learning. You are moving into the land of new technology affecting how you teach and how your students learn.
