Buddhism and SLO

Please be patient with me as I retell a Buddhist creation myth from memory that I read in an old book.
There is a Buddhist creation myth that long long ago humans were composed entirely of light without bodies. We floated around and lived forever. One day our ancestors saw a beautiful dew form on a blade of grass, and could not resist coming down to look at it. As they came down they saw every blade of grass had a similar dew forming on them. One of the spirit decided to taste the cool refreshing dew. It was wonderful. Other spirits followed licking the blades of grass. As they did this they started to gain physical forms and found themselves with an appetite for other food. As they ate they started to produce human waste which lead to something new "disease", suffering and death.
On Flex day I heard some faculty talk of how the SLOs will help us to improve our teaching and the discussions we can have about the data. As I heard this I remembered the above story. How beautiful ideas can create waste as they get implemented. How the beautiful idea of learning and collaboration quickly turns into the disease of incrimination and punishment as spurious (false) data is compared. Also we have to waste resources on new bureaucracy to track these false data.
Yes the data is Spurious! Actually that is what the "S" in SLO stands for..
I will write more about that in the future.
